A 44-year-old woman, administrator of a company that brokers tourism services, is being investigated for fraud after allegedly defrauding 18 people of approximately 165,140 lei. On Wednesday, November 4, police conducted two searches in Bucharest, and the suspect was taken in for questioning.
According to the Bucharest Police, the alleged offenses were committed between December 16, 2024, and July 1, 2026. The woman allegedly used vouchers, contracts for tourism packages, invoices, receipts and proof of payment to persuade clients to pay deposits or the full cost of stays in Romania and abroad.
After receiving the money in the company’s accounts or her personal accounts, the bookings were allegedly canceled under various pretexts. In other cases, tourists allegedly discovered upon arriving at the accommodation facilities that no bookings had been made in their names. The agency subsequently allegedly refused to refund the money.
Investigators note that the company’s operating license was allegedly revoked in September 2025. The investigation is being continued by the Central Criminal Investigations Service, under the supervision of the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Sector 4 District Court. The woman benefits from the presumption of innocence until a final conviction is handed down.
