Companies authorized for forestry operations reported harvesting 7.5% more timber in 2025 than in 2024, according to data published Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (NIS). During the same period, the volume of harvested roundwood increased by 7.2%.
NIS data show that broadleaf species accounted for 60.3% of the total volume of harvested roundwood, while conifers represented 39.7%. Beech was the main broadleaf species harvested, accounting for 32.1% of total roundwood.
The increase in roundwood volume was supported by a 5% rise in the quantity of conifers and an 8.6% increase in the volume of broadleaf species compared with 2024.
Most of the roundwood harvested in 2025 was destined for log production, accounting for 46.5% of the total. Firewood represented 40.7%, according to the NIS. The trend reflects data reported by economic operators certified for forestry operations.
