Three suspects have been apprehended in Bucharest for selling counterfeit banknotes of 50 and 100 euros, purchased from counterfeiters at one third of their real value. They placed the counterfeit money in the Capital area, deceiving at least 12 people who were selling mobile phones online. The estimated damage exceeds 8,000 euros. Officers from the Organized Crime Combat Unit confiscated 8,100 euros in counterfeit banknotes, originating from a factory in Suceava, where approximately 2.4 million euros were counterfeited. The police warn that the number of victims could be much higher, as many have not yet discovered the counterfeits. Experts recommend checking the paper, the watermark thread, and the color of the numbers to identify counterfeit banknotes.
