The Romanian government decided, in the meeting on December 5, to begin the reform of 17 state-owned companies, under the coordination of the inter-ministerial committee for supporting the implementation of Reform 9 (CNR9), led by Deputy Prime Minister Oana Gheorghiu. Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan emphasized that the budgets of these companies will be approved after the adoption of the national budget law.

The adopted memorandum aims to modernize corporate governance according to OECD standards and the requirements of the PNRR, defining the roles of the involved institutions and the coordination mechanisms. The inter-ministerial committee will analyze and evaluate the performance of the companies, proposing measures such as listing, reorganization, or maintaining operations.

The list of companies includes entities in the energy and transport sectors, such as Electrocentrale București and CFR Marfă. The evaluation process will involve data collection, performance analysis, and formulating recommendations for each company. The government will consider the public role, financial performance, and fiscal risks in the restructuring process.
