Ioan Stegeran, the mayor of the Fărcașa commune in Maramureș, sparked controversy after wearing a Rolex watch, which the press speculates could cost 50,000 euros. The mayor claims he purchased it two years ago at a lower price and has an invoice for it. Stegeran states that his income does not come from his position as mayor, but from a transport company he opened in 1991, which brings him dividends of approximately 1.9 million lei.

He emphasizes that a mayor should not be poor, as this would affect the community. Additionally, Stegeran has a pension of 5,000 lei per month and owns significant valuable assets, including gold bars and weapons. In the context of a meeting with Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan, who discussed the efficiency of local administrations, the president of the Association of Communes, Emil Drăghici, criticized the government for its lack of action in support of communities.
