The National Agency for Cadastre and Real Estate Publicity (ANCPI) was the victim of a major cyber attack, with non-functional servers starting from Tuesday, July 14. The hacker known as 'ByteToBreach' spoke with journalists from Euronews Romania, stating that his attack was motivated by financial gain.

He admitted to exploiting a known vulnerability from 2021 and apologized for the problems caused to citizens and the ANCPI IT team. Although he denied asking for an exorbitant ransom, the hacker mentioned that the stolen data is now being sold on the internet. ANCPI stated that the incident represents the most severe technical attack in its history, and cybersecurity specialists are collaborating to manage the situation. Romanian authorities are investigating the incident and possible ransom demands.
