The President of the Romanian Academy, Ioan Aurel Pop, together with 48 other academicians, sent an open letter to Parliament, requesting the rejection of a bill initiated by Daniel Fenechiu. This bill proposes the removal of term limits for the president of the Academy, which could facilitate real estate speculation with the institution's properties.
The academicians emphasize that the General Assembly of the Academy was not consulted regarding this initiative, considering that limiting terms to a maximum of two is essential for maintaining democratic values. In the letter, they state that any legislative modification regarding the functioning of the Academy should be discussed beforehand within the General Assembly.
