A taxi driver from Bucharest, along with two accomplices, is suspected of stealing a mobile phone and committing bank fraud, following an investigation coordinated by prosecutors from the Bucharest Tribunal's Prosecutor's Office.
The incident occurred on February 13, 2026, when the taxi driver stole the client's phone while transporting him. With the help of the accomplices, they managed to unlock the device and access banking applications, carrying out fraudulent transactions amounting to approximately 15,000 lei.
Following the searches conducted last week, clothing items and data storage media were seized. The three defendants are accused of aggravated theft, illegal access to a computer system, and carrying out fraudulent financial operations. Two of them have been placed under judicial control, while the taxi driver has been placed in preventive detention.
