The Bucharest Transport Company (STB) has announced that it will impose fines on individuals who use their phones on speaker, listen to music without headphones, or watch videos with sound on buses, trams, and trolleybuses. This measure will be preceded by an information campaign and inspections.

Additionally, Metrorex will broadcast audio messages requesting passengers to maintain silence.

The decision of the authorities was influenced by a petition initiated by journalist Georgiana Mihalcea, who, having a son with autism, highlighted the impact of noise on his travel experience.

Georgiana launched the petition to ask STB and Metrorex to encourage the use of headphones, explaining that noise in public transport can turn an ordinary journey into an overwhelming experience for those sensitive to sounds.
