On Friday, miners in the Jiu Valley staged a spontaneous protest over a two-day delay in their salaries. Some of them blocked underground, while others protested on the surface. The management of the Complex Energetic Valea Jiului assured that salaries will be paid within the day, after the energy minister signed an order to release the necessary funds. The government has adopted an emergency ordinance to ensure the continuity of work to close uncompetitive mines and the payment of wages. CEVJ employs about 2,400 people.
