Sphera Franchise Group, operator of the KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell brands, has announced the closure of seven Pizza Hut restaurants in Romania as part of an operational efficiency process. The decision was made due to the underperformance of these units, which had a significant negative impact on financial results. The current economic context, marked by the liberalization of energy prices, the increase in VAT, and a slowdown in private consumption, contributed to this decision. Although the group recorded a 0.7% increase in sales in the first nine months of 2025, net profit decreased by 46.7%. Sphera estimates that demand will be covered by the other units and will provide relocation options for affected employees. Currently, the group operates 176 restaurants in Romania, Moldova, and Italy.
