Hasan Mutlu, the mayor of the Bayrampasa district in Istanbul, has been arrested on charges of corruption, including embezzlement and bribery, along with 47 other individuals. This is part of a wave of arrests that has affected 19 members of the national social-democratic opposition. These actions are perceived by the party as political maneuvers intended to erode the opposition against President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
