SelfPay has obtained authorization to operate as a payment institution from the National Bank of Romania, marking the company’s 17th anniversary. The decision provides the company with a regulated framework for expanding its service portfolio, developing new payment solutions and entering into strategic partnerships in the financial industry.
The authorization was preceded by investments in technology, infrastructure, and operational and compliance capabilities. The process included meeting requirements related to business organization, risk management, internal controls, and compliance with applicable regulations. SelfPay received support from KPMG Legal Toncescu și Asociații, Tudor Nistor, and KPMG Advisory.
The company operates more than 15,000 Payment Stations in over 4,400 localities and provides access to more than 300 services, including bill, tax, and installment payments, cash deposits to cards, and electronic top-ups. The SelfPay Now app has surpassed one million users and integrates more than 200 services.
Launched in 2009, SelfPay currently processes more than six million transactions per month. CEO Adrian Badea says the authorization represents the foundation for the company’s expansion in the financial industry and the development of integrated services accessible both to cash users and those who prefer digital solutions.
