The border police of the General Inspectorate of Border Police conducted 73 home searches on Thursday in Botoșani County, targeting individuals involved in a network that provided non-compliant Romanian identity documents for citizens from the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation. This action is part of a broader investigation, which previously included 90 searches at public institutions and residences in Botoșani, Suceava, and Bucharest, resulting in the criminal prosecution of 94 suspects for offenses such as bribery and computer fraud.

The police are checking 104 addresses where citizens from these countries are registered, to determine if they actually reside at the declared addresses. It is suspected that the residences were established fictitiously through false rental contracts, facilitating the acquisition of Romanian identity cards by using forged citizenship certificates. These actions are coordinated by the Prosecutor's Office next to the High Court of Cassation and Justice.
