Teachers in Romania earn 14% more than their peers with higher education, unlike the OECD average, where teachers earn 19% less.

The OECD 2025 report shows that teachers in Romania have average salaries 14% higher than employees with higher education, in contrast to trends in other OECD countries. Additionally, teachers can receive compensation for overtime and special tasks. Romania is facing a shortage of teachers, with 1.9% of positions unfilled, and 2% of teaching staff are not fully qualified. Compared to the OECD average, Romania has a lower number of mandatory teaching hours but allocates a significant percentage of time for core subjects. Although salaries are competitive, financial challenges may hinder salary increases.
