The Finance Ministry reported that Romania's public debt surpassed 1,000 billion lei for the first time, reaching 1,013 billion lei in April. This represents 56.6% of GDP, up from 55.8% in March. Since the beginning of the year, debt has increased by RON 50 billion and the share in GDP has risen by almost 2 percentage points. Compared to 2022, when the debt was RON 498 billion and 46.6% of GDP, the current situation shows a significant increase.
