Oana Ţoiu, head of the Romanian diplomacy, stated that Romania will use its military bases and infrastructure for defensive activities related to tensions in the Middle East, without getting involved in the conflict. She specified that the support offered targets operations such as aerial refueling, emphasizing that Romania is not part of the war.

The statements come in the context in which the Trump administration has asked European allies to take on a more active role in security. Ţoiu acknowledged the tensions between Washington and European capitals, but emphasized the need for better dialogue in the transatlantic partnership. Romania has allocated 2% of GDP for defense and intends to increase this amount to 3.4% next year.

Additionally, Ţoiu commented on the incident in Galaţi, accusing Russia of involvement in attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure. Russia has denied the accusations, but Ţoiu called for an end to escalations and emphasized cooperation with the United States within NATO.
