Roxana Mînzatu, Vice President of the European Commission, stated that Romania is among the six EU member states that have requested the activation of the civil protection mechanism. This mechanism allows for the repatriation of European Union citizens from countries affected by war, and the European Union can reimburse up to 75% of the operation costs, under certain conditions.
Mînzatu emphasized the importance of coordinating resources among member states, highlighting the added value of European intervention.
She explained that, after the request is approved, Romanian citizens and those from other states will benefit from Romania's efforts for evacuation and transport, mentioning that the situation is dynamic and involves other countries, such as Italy, Slovakia, Austria, France, and Luxembourg.
