Romania is taking a significant step in the development of the defense industry by signing a memorandum between the state company Romaero and the startup Orbotix Industries for the local production of unmanned aerial systems (UAV) and solutions based on artificial intelligence. This partnership aims to manufacture up to 1,500 drones per month, which could transform Romania into an important player in the European security market.
Orbotix will provide the necessary technology, including software and artificial intelligence algorithms, while Romaero will ensure production according to NATO standards. The first drones, such as WASPER-1 and VIGIL-1, could be available in a few months, having applications for both civilian and military use. The project has the potential to revitalize Romaero, attracting investments and creating jobs, and marks a transition for Romania from importer to producer of military technology. This collaboration could become a model for the development of the national defense industry, thus supporting the strategic objectives of the country.
