The Ministry of Finance has stated that the fixed fee of 25 lei for packages under 150 euros coming from outside the EU is not a customs duty, but an internal tax obligation intended to regulate online commerce and ensure fair treatment among traders. The institution specifies that the payment is the responsibility of suppliers or sales platforms, not recipients, and rejects the idea that the measure would have affected logistics routes or generated tax losses. At the same time, the authorities remind that a similar tax will be applied at the level of the European Union starting July 2026.
