The Romanian Deputy Minister of Defense, Sorin Moldovan, stated for Politico that Washington should abandon the plan to withdraw 800 soldiers from Romania, emphasizing that this decision could fuel Russian propaganda about the division of NATO. The Pentagon announced the redistribution of troops back to Kentucky, focusing on domestic priorities. Moldovan asserted that a stronger bilateral discussion with the U.S. is essential, considering the threats on the eastern flank. Although NATO officials have downplayed the impact of the withdrawal, Moldovan highlighted that the political symbolism is problematic. The Minister of Defense, Ionuț Moșteanu, stated that Romania's security remains intact, with a similar number of American soldiers on the territory of the country and ongoing cooperation in the field of military equipment. He emphasized that NATO operates through solidarity and that Romania is preparing for deterrence against enemies, not for attacks.
