Romania has enacted a law that protects ethical hackers, specialized in cybersecurity, who identify and report information technology vulnerabilities in good faith. The new legislation clearly delineates research activities from criminal cyber attacks. USR Deputy Cristina Prună emphasized that the law introduces strict rules for testing information systems, excluding the application of certain provisions from the Penal Code in the case of activities conducted in good faith.
This does not legalize cyber attacks, but protects researchers who contribute to national security. The law also aims to strengthen cooperation between state institutions in the field of cybersecurity. PNL Deputy Eduard Mititelu highlighted the importance of supporting young specialists in cybersecurity. The National Cybersecurity Directorate will collaborate with relevant authorities to improve coordination and response to cyber incidents.
