Together with DIICOT prosecutors, the Romanian Police conducted searches on Tuesday at the homes of several individuals and the offices of some companies in the counties of Arad, Dolj, Prahova, and Giurgiu, as part of an international investigation requested by the Italian authorities. These actions target a transnational criminal group specialized in online piracy, which is alleged to have created and used software for the illegal distribution of restricted access TV programs.
The group is accused of computer fraud, illegal access to computer systems, money laundering, and copyright infringement. The evidence obtained during the searches has been forwarded to the Italian judicial authorities. The operation was supported by Europol and Eurojust, involving collaboration with the Polizia di Stato in Italy.
