Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan expressed his appreciation for the decision of the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) on February 18, which declared the law reforming the service pensions of magistrates constitutional, an essential element within the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Bolojan emphasized that this reform was persistently requested by Romanian society and represents a significant step towards equity.
He also announced that the Government will initiate actions to recover the funds related to this reform. The CCR rejected the complaints made by the High Court of Cassation and Justice, as well as the requests to refer to the Court of Justice of the European Union. Bolojan previously criticized the special pension system, emphasizing that it is not normal for magistrates to retire at 48-50 years old with pensions equal to or greater than their salaries, comparing them to the working conditions of other professional categories in Romania.
