Pope Leo XIV will undertake his first apostolic journey abroad, visiting eight hours in Turkey and Lebanon between November 27 and December 2.
This journey aims to promote peace in the region and strengthen interreligious relations.
The Pope will pray at the site of the explosion in the port of Beirut in 2020, which resulted in the deaths of approximately 200 people.
In Turkey, he will participate in events with Patriarch Bartholomew, celebrating 1,700 years since the First Council of Nicaea, and will have meetings with officials, including President Erdogan.
In Lebanon, he will preside over an interreligious meeting and an open-air liturgy.
The motto of the journey is "Blessed are the peacemakers," highlighting the Pope's commitment to interreligious dialogue, similar to that promoted by Pope Francis.
