In just four days, nearly 9,000 Bucharest residents have signed a petition requesting the ban of firecrackers and fireworks in the Capital, an initiative started by municipal councilor REPER, Andreea Leonte.
The project, submitted to the General Council, aims to protect animals and reduce accidents and pollution caused by the use of pyrotechnic materials. Andreea Leonte emphasizes the negative impact on animal health and the risks to humans, mentioning that every year serious accidents are recorded, especially among children. She also proposes modern alternatives, such as laser shows, which are safer and more environmentally friendly. The project has not yet been included on the agenda of the CGMB meeting, but Andreea Leonte hopes to gain the support of her fellow councilors.
Other cities in Romania have already adopted similar measures, giving up fireworks in favor of safer forms of entertainment.
