The Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) presented the report for the year 2025, highlighting an increase of over 27% in drug consumption and trafficking cases compared to 2024. According to the World Drug Report 2025, over 316 million people have used drugs, and the European market is divided between the saturated West, where cocaine is abundant, and the emerging East, with an increase in the consumption of new psychoactive substances, especially among the youth in Romania, Poland, and Bulgaria. In 2025, D.I.I.C.O.T. resolved 19,311 cases, an increase of 27.12% compared to 2024, with the majority of cases concerning drug trafficking (81.72%). Additionally, there were 3,568 final convictions recorded, and the conviction rate increased by 9.86%. However, the number of unresolved cases rose from 27,560 in 2024 to 28,968 in 2025.
