The President of Romania, Nicușor Dan, stated that his political priorities target areas such as justice reform and combating tax evasion, noting that his direct involvement in the plagiarism accusations against the Minister of Justice, Radu Marinescu (PSD), does not represent an urgency. The statements were made during a press conference held in Brussels. The President emphasized that plagiarism was a common practice in Romanian universities in the '90s and 2000s, and many of those involved are now part of the political elite.
The accusations against the Minister of Justice were brought to the public space by investigative journalist Emilia Șercan, who presented evidence that Radu Marinescu's doctoral thesis contains passages copied from other works, without adhering to citation norms. For his part, the minister rejected the accusations, claiming that his work was completed in accordance with the academic rules in force at the time of the defense, in 2009.
