President Nicușor Dan declared on Tuesday that Romania must make public all information related to the purchase of Pfizer vaccines against SARS-CoV-2, made in the last four to five years. This request comes in the context in which Romania lost in the first instance the lawsuit against Pfizer, and a court in Brussels decided that the government must pay over 600 million euros for the contracted but unpaid vaccines.

During his visit to the large burns center in Timișoara, the president emphasized the importance of transparency to combat misinformation and clarify political responsibilities. He called on journalists to present information accurately, warning of the risks of perpetuating confusion among the population. Dan also commented on the legal situation of vaccine purchases, mentioning that negotiations are underway to convert the amount owed into useful products for the medical system. The Brussels court condemned Romania and Poland to pay a remaining balance of 1.3 billion euros and 600 million euros, respectively, for the anti-COVID vaccines ordered from Pfizer/BioNTech.
