"Romania is safe, we will defend every inch of allied territory," assured NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, in a joint conference with the President of Romania, Nicușor Dan. The Romanian head of state also emphasized that Iran has not threatened Romania.
The two officials emphasized Thursday from NATO headquarters that "Romania is safe," and Mark Rutte assured that the alliance will "defend every inch of allied territory."
"Today we discussed how we can enhance security on the eastern flank. Romania plays a safe role here."
Nicușor Dan also stated that Iran has not threatened Romania, but spoke about the political and legal consequences after our country allowed the U.S. to send additional equipment to the air bases on our territory.
"Romania is defended. It has a strategic partnership with the U.S. and through the presence of troops, Romania is safer," said Dan.
When asked if Romania requested anything in return from the U.S. for hosting additional equipment and troops on its territory, Nicușor Dan said that "we have an ongoing discussion on multiple levels with the U.S., but it was not a negotiation, it was a need that the ally had and we rushed to meet it."
"There were several components. Two of them strengthen the shield at Deveselu, it is an additional protection for Romania and the part of Europe that the shield protects," emphasized Dan.
