Starting from May 1, 2026, the fares for subway travel in Bucharest will increase significantly, by approximately 40%. The order approving the new fares was published on Friday evening in the Official Gazette, requested by the Metrorex Administration Council and approved by the resigning Minister of Transport, Ciprian Șerban.

Thus, the price of a single journey will increase from 5 lei to 7 lei, and for two journeys from 10 lei to 14 lei. Subscriptions will also see considerable increases: the 24-hour subscription will reach 18 lei, the weekly one will be 60 lei, and the monthly one will be 140 lei. Regarding integrated metropolitan travel, the prices will be 9 lei for a single ticket, 18 lei for two journeys, and 196 lei for a monthly subscription. These changes come in the context of a need to adjust public transport fares.
