The Veșel commune and the Peștișu Mic commune in Hunedoara intend to merge in an administrative effort aimed at supporting local development and improving services for citizens. This initiative was recently discussed, with the goal of increasing the local budget, reducing administrative costs, and facilitating access to funding.
The administrative leadership would remain in Veșel, while Peștișu Mic will maintain a working point to avoid the need for citizens to travel. Vetuța Stănescu, the president of PNL Hunedoara, emphasized that the final decision will belong to the citizens, and this project comes in the context where most communes in Romania are facing financial difficulties, needing government support to cover their expenses. Only 1% of the over 2,800 communes can self-finance, and many of them cannot even pay their employees' salaries.
