Ciprian Șerban, the President of the Chamber of Deputies, has announced a change to the rules that will exclude MPs with properties in the capital from the lump sums for rent. The decision concerns 21 MPs who were already receiving rent money despite owning properties in Bucharest. It will also include the spouses of MPs who own property, to avoid confusion. The move follows revelations that 270 MEPs are receiving such sums, even though some are prosperous real estate businessmen.
