Ciprian Ciucu: "In Romania, when it snows, everyone gets hysterical, and the mayors go into a frenzy and throw tons of salt. In other countries, on the first day it snows, no one goes outside."

The general mayor of the Capital, Ciprian Ciucu, addressed, in a recent statement, the difficulties faced by the authorities in managing snowfall, emphasizing that there is a public hysteria in such situations in Romania. He compared the way snow is managed in Bucharest to that in cities like New York, where traffic is restricted on days with heavy snowfall, allowing equipment to intervene effectively.

Ciucu requested a respite of 24-48 hours to allow the authorities to cope with the situation, mentioning that the pressure on mayors leads to excessive use of salt, which harms the environment. He also emphasized that the Capital City Hall does not have its own snow removal service, but only deals with regulation and control, calling for better collaboration between authorities, the press, and citizens to improve snow removal management.
