Approximately 1,000 employees of the Oltenia Energy Complex are protesting in Bucharest, demanding the Government to postpone the closure of the mines and to stop the layoffs.

The miners and energy workers from the Oltenia Energy Complex are protesting on Tuesday in front of the Government, dissatisfied with the layoffs announced in the context of an energy crisis. They are demanding the renegotiation of the deadline for closing the mines, set for 2030, and the abandonment of layoffs, given that 1,800 employees on fixed-term contracts will lose their jobs starting from April 1 and May 1.

The protesters, equipped with banners and vuvuzelas, chant anti-government messages such as "Unity!" and "Resignation!", emphasizing the importance of their work for society. In the last two weeks, hundreds of employees have taken to the streets, demanding social protection measures and postponement of the mine closures. The company's management has initiated collective negotiations but mentioned legal and budgetary limitations that hinder their progress. The company has pre-notified a restructuring plan to the European Commission, but it does not include measures for collective layoffs.
