Prime Minister Luca Niculescu met Thursday at Victoria Palace with the United States ambassador to Bucharest, Darryl Nirenberg, to discuss the main directions of the Romanian-American strategic partnership. The meeting took place shortly after Niculescu was sworn in as prime minister.
The discussions focused on Romania’s security, the American military presence on the country’s territory and defense cooperation, including projects to equip the Romanian Army. The prime minister emphasized that relations with the United States represent a fundamental priority for the government and described them as a partnership based on trust, shared values and common interests.
An important part of the meeting was the economic dimension of bilateral relations. Niculescu and Nirenberg discussed the need to attract more substantial American investments in Romania, with an impact on the revival of the economy, the development of strategic sectors and job creation.
The prime minister said that Romania and the United States would continue cooperating in areas such as energy, infrastructure and education. The two officials agreed to meet periodically to monitor the progress of joint projects and identify new opportunities for cooperation.
