Ciprian Dascălu, chief economist at BCR, warns that Romania needs to start fiscal consolidation immediately, and in the long term, investment in education is essential to control public debt. State spending is concentrated on salaries, pensions and interest rates, and the revenue base is one of the lowest in the EU. Dascălu points out that without a high-performing education system, Romania will not be able to generate sufficient added value. European funds through the PNRR could support this transformation, but they must be used efficiently.
