Greenpeace Romania announced on Wednesday that satellite images captured a fluid spill in the Domino perimeter, Black Sea, where the offshore drilling of the Neptun Deep project is taking place.

The pollution spot extends over 100 kilometers and covers an area of 45 km², equivalent to 6,300 football fields. The organization accuses the companies OMV Petrom and Romgaz of irresponsibility, emphasizing that the moral responsibility for the incident lies with them. Analyses suggest that the vessel SKANDI ASSERTER could be the source of the spill.

The Romanian Naval Authority has acknowledged the incident but has not sent teams to the sea, considering it 'operationally irrelevant.' Alin Tănase, Greenpeace campaign coordinator, criticized the negligence of the authorities and companies, stating that Romania lacks an effective plan for responding to marine pollution. Greenpeace calls for the involved companies to take responsibility and for transparent monitoring of environmental incidents.
