On January 7, 2026, the National Institute of Hydrology and Water Management issued an orange flood warning for the rivers in the counties of Mehedinți and Dolj, valid from 6:00 PM on January 7 to 12:00 PM on January 8. Major floods and exceedances of flood protection levels are expected in the Desnățui hydrographic basin. Additionally, another 10 counties are under a yellow code, with risks of significant runoff on slopes, torrents, and streams, as well as rapid floods on small rivers, which can cause local flooding. The counties affected by the yellow code include Gorj, Vâlcea, Argeș, and Teleorman, among others, with specific areas mentioned for each hydrographic basin. Authorities recommend caution in these areas.
