The fear of dismissal is the main stress factor in the workplace in Romania, according to Cristian Jura, former secretary of state and member of the National Council for Combating Discrimination (CNCD).
This fear, often unrecognized, is fueled by changes in the professional and personal environment, such as frequent restructurings, unfair evaluations, and economic difficulties, including inflation.
Jura emphasizes that the fear of not being able to find a new job, especially after the age of 45, contributes to an atmosphere of tension in work collectives. Additionally, the forced replacement of the human factor with AI agents amplifies employees' anxiety. This state of fear can lead to discrimination and harassment, and current legislation does not explicitly regulate the fear of dismissal.
Jura warns that if employers take advantage of this fear, they may face acts of discrimination or harassment in the workplace.
