Romania submitted 63 applications for European patents in 2024, with an acceptance rate of 52.6%, with most innovations in information technology.

In 2024, Romanian companies and inventors saw a 50% increase in European patent applications to 63 applications. The acceptance rate of these applications is 52.6%, significantly outperforming the rates in South Korea (18.9%), China (17.9%), the US (16%) and Japan (7.9%). These data are included in the recently published 2024 Patent Index. This performance suggests growing innovation activity in Romania.
