The new electronic identity cards, introduced almost a year ago in Bucharest, prevent the penalization of travelers who travel without a ticket because the control systems in public transport are not yet adapted to verify them, as there are no readers for these documents.

During inspections, when a traveler without a ticket presents an electronic identity card, the inspectors cannot issue reports due to the lack of necessary equipment. Although tens of thousands of travelers were caught without a ticket last year, now, over 125,000 Bucharest residents with electronic identity cards do not risk fines. The Bucharest Transport Company has announced that readers for the new documents will be available soon.
