On Wednesday, education unionists, representing the 'Spiru Haret' Federation of Education Unions and the Federation of Free Unions in Education, organized a protest in front of the Ministry of Education and Research. They used sirens and vuvuzelas, displaying messages such as "Education, not austerity" and "We want social dialogue, not dictatorship by circular."
The protest was triggered by Circular no. 26564/2026, which provides for cuts in personnel expenses, deemed illegal by the unionists. They demand its repeal, arguing that it violates legislation and severely affects Romanian education.
Additionally, the unionists criticize the new salary law, which, in their opinion, condemns teachers to poverty, promising higher salaries that have not been honored. They demand the respect of commitments made to the unions and the correction of the salary law project to ensure fair remuneration for teaching staff.
