Anastasiu testified that he was blackmailed by Burlacu, who offered him a fictitious contract to disguise a bribe of €2,000 a month, promising the favorable closure of a tax audit. The court concluded that the sums paid by his firms constituted continued bribery and Anastasiu accepted the proposal to protect his business.
