Nemira Publishing has conducted an experiment to evaluate the impact of the new Romanian language and literature program for the 9th grade, published by the Ministry of Education after 16 years. This program, focused almost exclusively on ancient literature and the 19th century, has been criticized for preparing students for the past, not for the future. Additionally, the recommended authors list contains only male authors and excludes contemporary literature.

The experiment involved an "A.I. class" with five student profiles, and the results were alarming: 90% of students from vulnerable backgrounds might give up reading after high school, and 92% do not identify with the studied characters. Furthermore, 64% of students believe that literature does not provide space for women, and 51% could become functionally illiterate.

The conclusion of the experiment emphasizes that a program centered on the past, without diversity and relevance, can drive students away from reading and exacerbate educational inequalities. Nemira warns that education should not become a failed experiment and that it is essential for young people to be engaged with reading through texts that reflect contemporary realities.
