The development of the online environment has amplified the traffic of counterfeit medicines, turning it into a phenomenon that is difficult to control, according to statements by Răzvan Prisada, the president of the National Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices in Romania (ANMDMR).

Increased accessibility and the lack of filtering mechanisms have created a favorable environment for the distribution of counterfeit products, which can have unpredictable effects on health. A study conducted by the Medicines Serialization Organization in Romania (OSMR) shows that 1 in 10 Romanians would accept the conscious consumption of counterfeit medicines, and the level of awareness is insufficient. Only 50% of respondents can correctly identify the characteristics of counterfeit medicines.

Industry representatives emphasize the importance of choosing authorized sources for purchasing medicines. Although the control infrastructure has been strengthened, authorities acknowledge that they cannot combat this phenomenon alone.

The national campaign 'Counterfeit medicines can kill!' has been launched to raise awareness and reduce associated risks.
