The Iernut gas-fired power plant, 97% completed, could be fully operational this year, with a total capacity of 1,750 megawatts. Burduja underlines its importance for the revitalization of the fertilizer, agricultural and pharmaceutical industries, as well as for increasing gas production, in particular through the Neptun Deep project. Romania also aims to develop offshore wind energy and a submarine HVDC cable to connect the Caspian Sea to the Black Sea, thus strengthening regional energy security.
