On Friday, at LaGuardia Airport in New York, two United Airlines planes collided during takeoff maneuvers. One plane, returning from Orlando, struck the tail of another stationary plane that was waiting to take off to Houston. Passengers felt the impact but did not immediately realize what had happened. Both planes returned to the gate, and all passengers were disembarked. No injuries were reported among the 328 passengers and 15 crew members. The incident occurred amid severe delays caused by adverse weather conditions and staff shortages due to the shutdown. The airport had banned flights due to strong winds, and ground delays were significant, reaching up to five hours in some cases. Nearly 13,000 air traffic controllers are working without pay, contributing to the pressure on staff and delays in the national aviation system.
