The National Council for the Study of Securitate Archives (C.N.S.A.S.) has announced the start of the process of taking over the personnel files belonging to staff from the penitentiary system structures, for the period 1945–1989. This action, carried out based on a collaboration agreement with the National Administration of Penitentiaries (A.N.P.), aims to ensure access to public interest information regarding Romania's recent past. The transfer of documents will take place in stages, and so far, 1,438 files have been handed over. CNSAS emphasizes that this initiative contributes to completing the archival fund of the institution and to the valorization of historical documents relevant to the period of the communist regime in Romania.
