Ion Ceban, mayor of Chisinau, has been banned from entering Romania and the Schengen area for five years on suspicions that he poses a risk to Romania's national security. Ceban, known for his political past linked to the Party of Communists and later the Party of Socialists, has been involved in anti-European protests and has promoted relations with Russia. Although he founded the National Alternative Movement, Ceban shifted his rhetoric in favor of European integration, but has been linked to the influence of the Russian Federation, according to US documents.
